It takes a special kind of asshole to tell a woman that her bipolar child is “crazy” & should be “controlled”. It takes a special kind of hypocrite to say this and then claim they are sensitive to mental health issues.
So many bipolar people’s family & friends (most fairweather, of course) complain they spend too much time on line. Perhaps you guys need to think about why we do that. Most of us do so because you tend to distress us at times & most of us only developed a healthy, functional sense of self esteem when we found other misfits on line. Being forced to pretend to normal & constantly conforming to the oh so superficial world around us takes it toll. So, as a public service message, I urge you to stop this constant judgement. It leads to snapping and then we wound in return. Accept us for who we are. That’s all we ask for and really, it’s not too much to ask for. The internet community has saved our lives more times than you think. We do not always tell you when we’re in the mood to off ourselves because we know you’ll get distressed. We hide our pain to spare you.
It’s amazing how critically children think and as they grow, we suppress it. This little girl is just adorable and I hope one day she embraces the word feminist.
My personal experience tells me that misogyny and religion aren’t even remotely connected. Atheists can be just as misogynist as believers of any faith. Evolutionary theory, for example, justifies all sorts of misogynist norms. Scripture not needed to oppress.
“The main thrust of this essay is to show how misleading the contemporary mainstream Western discourse on ‘Islam’ and gender/sexuality is, and the degree to which it is premised on an essentialized and monolithic ‘Islam’ emptied of history, diversity, complexity, and dissent.”

If only I had a rupee for every time I heard one of these statements!
| Abbu: | Can you pick up a cake from Masoom's? Murder by Chocolate is good. |
| Abbu: | Oh ho, I mean Suicide by Chocolate. |
| Abbu: | Waisay, since this is Pakistan, I'm assuming it's called Honour Killing by Chocolate. |
I’m watching atheists, strong opponents of theism & deification, turn Hitchens into a saint all of a sudden. Although a huge loss, I will not remember a war loving misogynist well. I do believe, however, that atheists who believe they have the moral high ground or say they are more humane than people of faith should always remember Hitchens as a example of how nasty & inhumane militant atheism can get. I really liked this piece. It says it all.
